3RD YEAR SECOND SEMESTER

Throughout the project, I continued to use detailing as a design tool to test and refine architectural ideas. Through iterative hand drawings, façade studies and detail development, I explored how simplified and carefully considered construction approaches could achieve strong design outcomes while maintaining feasibility. This process reinforced the importance of iterative thinking, thoughtful detailing and constructability as foundations of my architectural approach.

Working alongside technical architects at SJB, I developed an understanding of how architectural intent can be balanced with construction feasibility, client expectations and budget considerations.

This project, completed as the culmination of my Bachelor of Architecture, explored the design of a multi-residential development with a focus on creating socially responsive and affordable housing outcomes. The project fostered my interest in social and affordable architecture while strengthening my skills in urban design, master planning and the coordination of complex architectural systems. Working alongside technical architects at SJB, I developed an understanding of how architectural intent can be balanced with construction feasibility, client expectations and budget considerations.

RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT

4th year first semester

This residential development explored culturally appropriate architecture through the design of housing that encouraged meaningful interaction between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. Having grown up in rural Queensland within a multicultural community, I was motivated to investigate how architecture could help foster shared experiences and challenge social stereotypes through the design of inclusive neighbourhoods. The project furthered my interest in social and affordable architecture while strengthening my skills in urban design, master planning and the coordination of complex architectural systems.

This iterative approach encouraged experimentation throughout the design process, reinforcing the value of research, observation and making as tools for developing architecture that is culturally responsive, contextually grounded and socially meaningful.

The project challenged my design process by looking beyond conventional architectural precedents, drawing inspiration from found objects and artistic provocations to inform both spatial organisation and architectural expression. This iterative approach encouraged experimentation throughout the design process, reinforcing the value of research, observation and making as tools for developing architecture that is culturally responsive, contextually grounded and socially meaningful.

The project strengthened my ability to integrate architectural vision, constructability and structural design throughout the design process, culminating in the production of construction-level detailing and documentation. All drawings, models and details presented in this portfolio were produced by myself as part of the wider group project.

Through the resolution of structural systems, façade assemblies and construction details, I explored how materiality, performance and technical decisions can enhance the architectural experience. The process reinforced my belief that considered detailing is integral to realising design intent, allowing concepts to be developed into coherent and constructible architectural solutions.

The project strengthened my ability to integrate architectural vision, constructability and structural design throughout the design process, culminating in the production of construction-level detailing and documentation. All drawings, models and details presented in this portfolio were produced by myself as part of the wider group project.
